CANADIAN PACIFIC (complete feature) starring Randolph Scott
also featuring Victor Jory, J. Carroll Naish, Jayne Wyatt, and Nancy Olson
Train buffs will love this Western adventure set in the 1880's when
Canada was building railroad travel cross-country.Much of the action takes
place in and around the railroad trains and locomotives. |
 |
Randolph Scott is heading the building the railroad as the chief
surveyor-foreman. He is engaged to young Nancy Olson but a quarrel leads him
to female doctor Jane Wyatt who is a radical peace-movement freak with a
pacifist anti-gun dogma that temporarily castrates Randolph Scot into
becoming the frontier's first metro-male. When Scott's friend is killed and
sabotage is everywhere from villain Victory Jory , who gets the Indians in an uprising
with lies and liquor, he straps his guns back on and takes charge as the
Indians attack the railroad workers.
They must hold off the Indians from their train cars until reinforcements
arrive. This wouldn't be a Niles films release without some sort of defect
and in this case , reel three is soft focus probably due to faulty
pre-print. Luckily, reel three has mostly plots and minimal action scenes
and the entire rest of the feature is quite normal with clear sound. Loads
of great train scenes both exterior and interiors of the Canadian Pacific
Railways.

THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH - Hitchcock -
The first film version of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" proved to be the
international "breakthrough" film for British director Alfred Hitchcock,
transforming him from merely a talented domestic filmmaker to a worldwide
household name. While vacationing in Switzerland, Britons Leslie Banks and Edna
Best befriend jovial Frenchman Pierre Fresnay. Not long afterward, Fresnay is
murdered. He whispers a secret in Banks' ear before expiring. This is witnessed
by several sinister foreign agents, who kidnap Banks' daughter Nova Pilbeam to
keep him from revealing what he knows: That a diplomat will be assassinated
during a concert at London's Albert Hall. Unable to turn to the police, Banks
desperately attempts to rescue his child himself, still hoping to prevent the
assassination. The film's now-famous set pieces include the "Siege of Sidney
Street" re-creation and the climactic clash of cymbals at Albert Hall, followed
by the crucial scream of Edna Best. German film star Peter Lorre made his
English-speaking debut here though he was still monolingual in 1934 and had to

THE MAN ON THE EIFFEL TOWER
The film pits Georges Simenon's analytical Inspector Maigret played by Charles
Laughton, against a wily murderer. We know virtually from the outset that the
guilty party is Radek, played by Franchot Tone, a psychotic with delusions of
grandeur who has been seduced into killing the wealthy aunt of slatternly Edna
Wallace. Maigret suspects Radek , but without solid proof he must suffer the
taunting and baiting of the beyond-the-law killer much like Columbo who would
know who the murderer was but had to bide his tiime. Eventually Maigret wins the
psychological battle, forcing Radek to seek refuge on the titular tower. And if
you're waiting for that final fatal fall, this isn't that kind of movie.

NERO'S GLADIATORS
starring Charles Laughton and Claudette Colbert
This Cecil B. DeMille epic from the 1930's takes place in the darkest aspect of
pagan Rome, 64 A.D. with Nero as Emperor. This episode from the original

spectator sports to amuse the Roman mob as well as the sadistic Emperor, Nero.
At this event, a poster bills such events as "100 Christians executed". (Maybe
current Christians should get the Rev. Sharp Tongue to sue for reparations!)

CIRCUS FILMS for the family

CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN
Produced in 1937, this film pictures the traveling circus in the waning
days of its glory --- days when it traveled from town to town by
train---days when a parade down Main Street found every kid in the vicinity
lined along the parade route hours before the quavering notes of the
calliope heralded its approach. While some circuses still remain, most of
them are simply shadows of their former greatness with attractions that
crisscrossed the country every year. They no longer travel by train, but
move by truck. And the parades---gone forever. This film shows things as
they were back in the halcyon days of showmanship.

TIGER HUNT
A Castle Films animal-adventure film produced by Saul Turell and Paul Killiam
with research by William K. Everson. The tiger is the most destructive of
all the cats. A native of Asia, usually it is associated with the steaming
jungles of India and Malaya. This tiger hunt is in a much different setting;
Siberia. In the early spring when the snow is only knee deep a group of hunters
are out to capture a LIVE tiger for circus training. They encounter other
creatures such as a deer, an otter, a leopard, who also must be taken alive. The
only weapons used are forked sticks ad their skills. They catch the beast
without harm then continue on for their main objective. One of the dogs picks up
the scent! The hunters come across a half-eaten wild bear killed by a tiger. The
final shot is of the tiger jumping through hoops in a circus when it had
formally been free. Are we next Mr. President?

HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
- 1981
A young boy, dressed like a depression era kid from the 1930's, passes unnoticed
through the Christmas Eve crowds of a medium sized town of the 1980's on a
journey home. Unable to get a seat on the last bus which is full, he hitch-hikes
a ride until he finally makes it to the house of an old man. He complains to the
old man
that he wasn't able to go home and have Christmas as he remembered it with his
family. The old man philosophically says you can't go home again.
The boy, in a Twilight-Zone-like turn is actually the old man as a child and
blends back into the elderly man in his chair waiting by the phone. Bt all is

THE
KING OF KINGS (1927) Cecil B. DeMille Production
Having previously produced the blockbuster Biblical epic, "The Ten
Commandments"(1923), the legendary Cecil B. DeMille produced this 1927
story of Jesus titled "King of Kings". Inasmuch as he was now dealing with
the life of Christ, DeMille had to be careful to create a balance of
showmanship and reverence for the subject matter. DeMille "introduces"
Christ to the film audience in a tasteful manner with a scene of as a blind
child that is cured through Jesus' intervention. DeMille cuts to the child's
point-of-view, slowly fading in on the kindly countenance of Jesus, who is
played by H. B. Warner. The showmanship side of DeMille soon blends in
with the handling of the character of Mary Magdalene, played by Jacqueline
Logan. Here, she is not a tattered streetwalker, but a glamorous courtesan,
replete with legions of gorgeous slave girls (one of whom is "bubble dancer"
played by Sally Rand (who else?) and dressed in revealing Hollywood-style
gowns.
In fact, the film opens on this character, as she ruminates over
the defection of her favorite customer, Judas Iscariot, played by Joseph
Schildkraut, who is spending far too much time with Jesus of Nazareth. Upon
visiting Jesus herself, she immediately repents, casting off all her prior
sins. The feature progresses along as DeMille adheres faithfully to
the particulars of Jesus' life, betrayal, trial, Crucifixion, and
Resurrection. DeMille, the showman, improves a bit upon his source material
(i.e. The Bible). The storm that follows the Crucifixion is of the same
spectacular dimensions as the parting of the Red Sea in his earlier epic
"The Ten Commandments" while the Resurrection is filmed in vibrant
Technicolor. To back up the authenticity of his images, DeMille, with an
assist from scenarist Jeannie MacPherson, utilizes Scriptural quotes in his
subtitles.
Prepared to mercilessly lambaste "The King of Kings", the
"can't do-s" of the world, also known as "critics" were disarmed by his
reverent, tasteful approach to the subject. DeMille devoted all of his share
of the profits to charity and the film was shown free of charge to the poor
in over half the world. There's no record of what the elite critics
contributed.
Notes on the print; It is printed on Kodak SP 0031 stock and is
sepia-toned the entire feature. There is scarcely any difference in the
short 2-color tech resurrection scene spliced into the print and the
sepia-tones of the entire feature. It is a fine grain original from nearly
the original source material. No flickers or dupiness in this stunning
print. Virtually splice free and no serious lines or signs of projection
wear. Mounted on three 1,600-foot reels. No V.S. of course.

MARTIN THE COBBLER by Leo Tolstoy
This marvelous clay-mation story features stunning photography and lighting,
first rate sound and voice characterizations and a top flight music score.
The story is from a Tolstoy tale narrated by his daughter, about a shoe
cobbler living alone and bitter over the deaths of his wife and child many
years earlier. He feels he has noting to look forward to as his skills are
diminishing and he is bitter on religion until a wandering preacher (called
"Pilgrim" in this story) comes to him for help repairing a bible. He
suggests that Martin read it and says that he will be visited by the Lord
the next day. Martin encounters several people the next day whom he shows
kindness to without realizing he has turned into a good loving Christian in
a Scrooge-like reformation. A marvelous tale done tastefully with masterful
animation. Produced and directed by Will Vinton. Original music by Billy
Scream and Paul Jameson. Animated by Barry Bruce, Don Merkt, Tom Samanen,
and Will Vinton. Sets and characters by Dick ("don't call me Richie") Allen,
Barry Bruce and K. Henrickson.

ON CHRISTMAS EVE
( Sheridan, 1983)
This animated cartoon is a parody of the familiar "Night Before Christmas" poem
with a wry twist to it. It seems Santa is too fat to get down the chimney to
deliver his toys to the children and can't find a way into the house. The window
is locked and so is the door. So, back on the roof again, Santa [pulls of a

are praying when the boy tells his pooch the story of Baby Jesus and the trek to
Jerusalem along with details of the three wise men, etc. All from the
perspective and dialogue of a young child. Simply animated for direct effect in
the story-telling, this is a fine entry level cartoon version of the start of
Christmas for young children to see.

A-1 Video
has been forced to sever our affiliation with Merchants services and the
Visa, Mastercard and Discover Cards due to an outrageous increase in fees.
The banks are taking up to 30% of your money from our account when you pay
and obviously we cannot absorb that kind of bank-gouging, nor can we pass
that along to our customers.
So, we have aligned with PayPal which has an affordable fee at present.
If you have a PayPal account then orders can still be paid to A-1 video
under the email account
KCandBob@roadrunner.net. Attn; Karen Casey
If you do not have PayPal account, then a money order that draws on any U.S.
bank can be used. Citizens in the U.S. can, of course, mail a personal
check. |
SALES TAX
Sales taxes may have to be included with your charges depending on individual state
regulations.
SHIPPING-
With film, each can cost a different amount so emailed prices will be
sent to you when your selections are finalized.
Canadian fees need a quote from us based on your quantity.
Overseas shipping vary too much for a generic quote so
email us with your quantities and we will compute your best options.
We use U.S. mail or private carrier services depending on the best cost versus
package size and insurance. All videos are insured for delivery and will be
replaced if damaged or undelivered within the Post Office's time frame (usually
30 days maximum). A-1 video does not issue refunds for undelivered or damaged
tapes but will replace the order at our expense. Any special shipping such as 2-day or overnight must be
authorized by the purchaser for us to expedite your order.
DVD shipping costs are lower and will be computed for your domestic U.S. zip
code.
International customers will have their orders computed as well before your
total is emailed to you.
Overnight Express orders start at $20. for domestic
service.
DELIVERY
We can fill most tape orders within one to three weeks maximum. In some cases it is only a
matter of days if we have inventory on the shelf. Any delays beyond that time period and
A-1 will notify you. 16mm prints ordered through our film division may take longer as they
are generally made to order on an as-need basis.

ATTENTION 8mm &
16mm Collectors!
Here's the
reference guide and historical book you've always wanted!
Do you remember the first movie
you ever owned? It was probably a product of Castle Films. Before
home video, Castle Films made every living room a screening room.
For four decades the 16mm
and 8mm film products of Castle Films were sold in every
department store and hobby shop. Castle had big-screen movies for
everybody: comedies with Abbott & Costello, The Marx Brothers, and
W. C. Fields...monster movies with Frankenstein, Dracula, and the
Wolfman...cartoons with Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, and Mighty
Mouse...westerns with Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, and James
Stewart...travelogues of the world's picturesque
places...newsreels of major headline stories...musicals with top
singers and bandleaders.
Collectors have always
wanted a reference book detailing the total output of Castle
Films. Here it is. Castle Films: A Hobbyist's Guide is a
complete filmography of every title printed between 1937 and 1977.
For handy reference, there are separate indexes by title, subject,
and serial number, a listing of Castle's color film releases, and
a special section "decoding" Castle's various pseudonym titles and
disclosing the "true identities" of many films.
Castle Films: A
Hobbyist's Guide is a fascinating, nostalgic look at one of
the pioneers of home entertainment.
SYNOPSIS
Collectors have always wanted a
reference book detailing the complete 40-year filmography of
Castle Films. This is it.
TO PURCHASE, go to BarnesandNoble.com then type "Castle Flms" in
the search and you will get all the information you need to
purchase this great book! A-1video.com highly recommends this to
all film buffs and home movie collectors!

There are a lot of guns in Westerns
and action movies such as those shown on this page. Some used for bad and
some used for good.
We have a real life "high noon" approaching us.
Flanked by Hollywood director Andrew Niccol, advocates from ControlArms,
SaferWorld, and the International Action Network on Small Arms, IANSA,
hosted a cocktail party at the United Nations headquarters building, followed by a viewing of Niccol’s 2005 film, “Lord of War.” - NewsMax
I repeat “to impose legally-binding United Nations controls over small arms
and personal firearms”.
Ok, so let’s start from the top. You think that the United Nations should be
the supreme law of the land and not our United States Constitution. You want
“gun control” on personal firearms even though the Second Amendment clearly
states “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed”. You don’t want to amend the Constitution through the procedure
given to repeal the second amendment but rather have the right just taken
away by some third party.
So when you don’t believe in what defines us as “Americans” how can you
consider yourself one? A little too much rum in the punch I suspect. Taking
guns out of the hands of the citizens doesn’t make them safer. What it does
do is allow the government controlled army to subdue them that much easier.
Perhaps you lefties might want to actually read the founding fathers you
claim to agree with so vehemently a little more closely? |
