TALES OF CHRISTMAS PAST
Step back 50 years plus with us to a
gentler era. The Christmas movies of perhaps your and your fathers youth. They
were made with one thing in mind, to bring joy to the children and happy
memories to the adults. Today some are campy, though most hold up well against
today's production values on television.
First on the program is a forgotten gem, Christmas Window (1950) A
little girl longingly looks into a toy store window, and much to her disbelief
the toys come to life. Done in a charming stop motion. Then The Santa Claus
Story (1942) followed by the classic Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer
(1950) Christmas Toy Shop (1944). In Merry Christmas (1947) we
see an idyllic Christmas Eve at home of the time. Christmas Dream (1944
) Santa brings a old rag doll to life for a bedlam of fun.
The Night Before Christmas (1946) “Twas the night before Christmas, the
popular poem that has delighted millions of children for countless years.
The Little Match Girl (1942) The classic Hans Christian Anderson
tale in a touching Color Rhapsody cartoon. Howdy Doody’s Christmas
(1951) There’s trouble on Christmas Eve. Santa’s gone. Howdy Doody, Buffalo
Bob and Clarabelle have to rescue Santa from the clutches of Ugly Sam.

BURNS & ALLEN Early Shows Vol. 2 (CHRISTMAS SHOW)
Their second Christmas Show (#33) from December 20th, 1951 leads off with Mamie Kelly and
her three pesky little girls visiting the Burnses for the holidays much to the annoyance
of both George and Harry. George dresses up as Santa for the girls who are not fooled and
Gracie tells them the story of "A Christmas Carol" in only her unique way. It
winds up more like Cinderella and Goldilocks by the time she's through!
The next show is from December 7, 1950 (#5) in which Gracie returns Georges' Christmas
presents before he has even seen them. This is due to the fact that George usually does
after Christmas and she is merely saving him the trouble! Vanderlip the banker has some
complaints to George about Gracie's check-balancing methods!

FROM THE MANGER TO HE CROSS 1912
This early biblical feature was filmed on location in
Egypt and Palestine during the winter of 1911 through 1912. Directed by Sidney Olcott,
this feature was released as both a feature and as six short episodes for distribution.
During its brief but colorful history, the pioneering Kalem company turned out a
number of box-office successes. Foremost among these was "From the Manger to the
Cross", a tableau-like reenactment of the Passion Play. Robert Henderson-Bland
played Jesus, while Gene Gaunthier and Jack Clark were seen as Mary and
Joseph. Though the costumes were sometimes anachronistic, the film's overall
authenticity was heightened by the expensive decision to lens the picture on
location in The Holy Land. Made during Easter week of 1912, "From the Manger to
the Cross" was still being exhibited by religious groups well into the late
1930s.Historical information provided by Hal Erickson.

Christmas Collectables
for sale
'Twas the month before Christmas
when all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying nor taking a stand.
Why the P.C. Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a " Holiday ".
The shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X box, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets are hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penney's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-Ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen
On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!
Let us not forget Bush and his Neocon handlers.
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate "Winter Break" under your "Dream Tree"
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me...
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout Merry Christmas!,
not Happy Holiday!
Christmas Is Not A Holiday -- It's A Birthday
By Michael Reagan
December 4, 2008
Christmas is once again upon us, and we can expect to witness countless new
displays of the rampant secularization of what is meant to be a joyous
celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Frankly I'm fed up with seeing federal, state and local governments, local
and nationwide chain stores, and even the White House -- which last year
couldn't call their Christmas Party a Christmas party -- all of them giving in
to the intimidation of a handful of secular progressives who loathe Christianity
and any celebration associated with it.
Despite the fact that close to 90 percent of all Americans are Christians --
and that along with Easter, Christmas is one of the two most sacred days in the
Christian calendar -- we have allowed a tiny minority among us to turn Christ's
birthday celebration into a secular holiday devoid of any religious significance
whatsoever.
Merely to greet another by saying "Merry Christmas" is now deemed politically
incorrect and potentially offensive to non-Christians, and is thus taboo. Pity
the poor store employee who dares to greet customers with this traditional
salutation instead of uttering the meaningless "Happy Holiday."
Municipalities large and small tremble in fear of being charged with
violating the hallowed creed of separation of church and state if they allow the
erection of a crèche or Christmas tree on city property, or dare to call the
tree anything other than a "holiday" tree. Obviously, any mention of the
holiday's correct title -- Christmas -- is absolutely verboten.
It has long been clear that the sole official purpose of the so-called
holiday season is to boost the economy with an orgy of buying Christmas presents
from establishments which insult us by strenuously avoiding calling them
Christmas gifts.
Last year, after decades of meekly accepting these demonstrations of the
nation's increasingly enforced paganism, many Americans began to shout "enough,"
and won some significant victories in the fight to put Christ back into
Christmas.
The secular progressives who shrivel at the sound of a "Merry Christmas"
greeting have long succeeded in intimidating the world of commerce and
government. It's about time for the 90 percent of Americans who call themselves
Christians to do a little intimidation of their own.
My fellow Christians should join me in pledging never again to shop in any
commercial establishment where the clerks greet us with that "Happy Holiday"
greeting as an insult to our religious beliefs, just as we must defend the
exhibition of the menorah or other Jewish symbols at Hanukkah.
We should never again vote for a candidate who does not recognize the right
of Christians to have their sacred religious observances recognized by all
levels of government, and who will not vigorously oppose all attempts to take
Christ out of Christmas and Christmas out of the calendar.
We should not buy a single product manufactured or sold by a commercial
enterprise that bows to the intimidation of those who hate our faith and seek to
deny it any recognition, official or otherwise.
On the positive side, we should applaud all those commercial entities that
joyfully and unambiguously recognize and celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ,
and stand side-by-side with our Jewish brothers and sisters as they fight to
have their religious observances celebrated without restriction.
Have a Merry Christmas. And don't be afraid to say that loud and clear to
everyone.
---
Mike Reagan, the elder son of the late President Ronald Reagan
To all my Democrat friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an
environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive,
gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the
most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular
practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion
and/or traditions of other, or their choice not to practice religious or secular
traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling
and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted
calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of
other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great.
Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the
only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard
to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee.
To all my Conservative friends:
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
