COMMANDO CODY ; Radar Men From The Moon
The Saturday afternoon matinee at local theaters invariably
had a serial chapter playing along with the assorted cartoons and B-Westerns. From this
golden age comes a 12 chapter serial starring George (no not the Southern Governor)
Wallace and Clayton (Hi Yo Silver!) Moore. In this serial the Earth experiences a series
of atomic explosions. The government solicits the help of scientist-inventor Commando
Cody. It seems the moon is inhabited by terrorists (we should send ours there!). What else
does a serial hero do but jump into his rocket ship, take off for the Moon and confront
the evil ruler who is bent on conquering the earth (after he's leveled it with A-bombs?).
Well, I guess you just have to be there to see how 12 chapters of non-stop action and
adventure sustained many a young lad.

destruction when he thinks he discovered a lost "Madonna," actually painted by a

THE COrpse Eaters
Two young couples funning around on Friday thw 13th, go into a cemetery. When it
starts to rain, they go into an open vault to get out of the elements. Playing a
game with Satanic words for Lucifer, they manage to wake up the dead. More fun
takes place at the Happy Halo Mortuary.
Picture has bloody and other graphic effects. So much so, it was censored in
it's country of origin (Canada) upon it's release. Producer and makeup artist
Lawrence Zazlenchuck also made "Attack of the Brain Demon" and "The Mummy's
Rampage" (both are lost films).
Long thought lost, this video was transferred from the only known surviving

THE CREEPING TERROR
In the best Ed Wood tradition this horror (in more ways than
one! ) is about two monstrous hairy globular creatures that bear a striking resemblance to
giant dildos! They turn up near Lake Tahoe (probably where the producer lived) and proceed

major portions of the films' sound track was accidentally destroyed, a narrator fills in

Richard Carlson stars as a Private Eye searching for a

that master of subtlety, Tor (Plan 9) Johnson as a psychotic ex-boxer who settles any
disputes among the inmates in the asylum. Actually, this is a straight forward mystery

METROPOLIS A FilM by FritZ Lang
At the time of it's release in 1927, METROPOLIS was
the costliest production ever from the European cinema. This futuristic tale takes place
in the 21st Century in a large city run autonomously by a super trustee and his
associates. Workers are robotized slaves to the gigantic machinery they operate. Throw in

Recommended reading Chicago TV Horror Movie Shows: From Shock Theatre to Svengoolie Although the motion picture industry initially disparaged and feared television, by the late 1950s, studios saw the medium as a convenient dumping ground for thousands of films that had long been gathering dust in their vaults. As these films found their way to local TV stations, enterprising distributors grouped the titles by genre so programmers could showcase them accordingly. It was in this spirit that Chicago’s tradition of horror TV movie shows was born.
TV viewers couldn’t get enough of the old monster movies—everything from glossy Frankenstein and Dracula epics to low-budget cheapies featuring giant grasshoppers and teenage werewolves. Here in Chicago, these films were broadcast on such horror movie shows as Shock Theatre, Thrillerama, Creature Features, and Screaming Yellow Theater. Chicago TV Horror Movie Shows: From Shock Theatre to Svengoolie is the first comprehensive look at Chicago’s horror movie programs, from their inception in 1957 to the present. Through career profiles of the Horror Hosts who provided comedic interludes between commercial breaks, discover which creepy presenter was one of the 12 reporters to travel around the country with the Beatles during their 1965–66 U.S. tour, and learn about the politics behind Channel 32’s sudden (and outrageous) switch from Svengoolie to the Ghoul. Also included are broadcast histories of such “hostless” programs as Creature Features, Thrillerama, The Big Show, The Early Show, The Science Fiction Theater, and Monster Rally, along with a guide to 100 fright films broadcast on Chicago television and a look at the “Shock!” horror library that started a TV craze. |
